The only car that I can accept for myself as a used car has to be a vintage car. Vintage cars no doubt are the prized possessions of the well-healed and the people with taste. The connoisseurs of such cars are quite a passionate lot and love to spend lavishly on their passions. They are in fact quite mad when it comes to those old machines, the sight of which brightens their eyes, and they can pay just any price if one catches their fancy.

I can recall the shenanigans of an old friend of mine who happened to pass by a vintage car rally in the suburb of the capital of India. He got mesmerized by the class and the gentry that he could see behind the wheels of those oldies.

The rally sight was transforming for him. As soon as the rally ended he headed for a renowned auto dealer of used cars. He placed with him an order for a vintage lady if the auto dealer could lay his hands on for him.

Those who sell vintage cars are thought to be fool while those who buy such cars are appreciated for the disposable wealth they are willing to put into the machines which are no longer worth the metal at a scarp dealers. This is the world of notions harbored by the rich and well, not necessarily the famous.

This friend of mine one day was shown a vintage Ford. He kind of drooled over it as if he met his salvation. The beauty was brought home in plying condition.

He drove it for few days and flaunted too before it became a full time occupation to look for its spares as they gave way one after the other. The garage where he purchased and got his vintage serviced had good time making money over his ordeal about his passion.

At the moment it is gathering dust in his garage. My friend has plans to take it to a better and bigger garage though.

Toyoto Becomes Number One Car Company; Thanks General Motors

Thank you so much for making Toyota number one, the chairman of Toyota, Fujio Cho, said to Richard Wagoner, the CEO of General Motors, and leaned across the conference table to shake his hand.

Think nothing of it, Mr. Wagoner replied, obliging the Japanese exec. The credit belongs entirely to you and your quality-obsessed company.

No, no, the Japanese CEO insisted. We could never have done it without your reliable incompetence.

On the contrary, sir, the GM CEO replied, eyeing the other American and Japanese executives arrayed around the conference table, the credit is entirely due to your astonishing competence. After all, you and your company have figured out how to make cars people actually want to buy form and function, attractively combined.

Yes, I think thats true, the CEO of Toyota conceded.

And youve figured out how to make cars that are legendarily reliable, Wagoner went on.

Yes, I must also agree with that.

Then how is it possible that you are thanking me for helping to make you number one? Mr. Wagoner wanted to know. I do not deserve any of the credit whatsoever!

But, dont you see, Mr. Wagoner? We owe our success to the fact that you have not quite figured out how to make cars that people actually want to buy!

Were working on it, the CEO of GM replied.

And have you figured out how to make legendarily reliable cars?

Were also working on that.

May I ask if you have been successful at either endeavor?

I said were working on getting there.

But, Mr. Wagoner, how is it possible that after all these years of making cars you are still working on two such important objectives? Of course, I am not referring to you and your highly competent current executives, but only to your predecessors, and I am sure you will do much better.

The 2 Types Of Hybrid Cars

Many automobile companies have spend millions of dollars each year in research and development of more efficient fuel consumption for cars. Each year more and more cars are rolled out the production plants and there is an urgent call by consumers and environmental groups to reduce the fuel consumption of automobiles.

With the increasing cost of fuel and the environmental concerns regarding harmful emissions of toxic gases into our atmosphere, automobile companies are forced to developed radically different types of cars. One of which is the hybrid car

A hybrid is powered by conventional fuel as well as uses electric energy. Hybrid cars have lower fuel consumption and are more environmentally friendly.

All hybrid cars are powered by two engines : a gasoline engine and a electric engine. Typically, they work in tandem with each other. The gasoline engine is used during starting and stopping the car. Once the car is travelling at a certain speed, the electric engine will take over automatically.

In the current market, there are 2 types of hybrid car. The first type is the series. Typically, the gasoline engine is used to start and stop the car. Once the hybrid car has attained a certain speed, the electric engine will take over. The gasoline engine is also used to charge the electric engines batteries. As you can see, both engines are used in tandem with each other but never together.

The second type is called the parallels. It has the same physical configuration of the series hybrid however the operation is quite different. Both the electric engine and the gasoline engine can be used to start and stop the car. The electric engine is used to boost the power of the car when required. Parallel hybrid cars are more suited for long distance travelling.

Usually, hybrid cars are built using very lightweight materials in order to reduce the load on the hybrid car when travelling. This help to save fuel by requiring less energy to move the vehicle. The tires are made more rigid than conventional vehicles with higher tire pressure to increase fuel efficiency.

In on whole, a hybrid car consumes 50 to 60 percent less fuel than a conventional car. The only obstacle is the high cost at the present moment but I am sure as consumers start to recognize the benefits of hybrid car, the prices will start falling and become more affordable.
